Stanford University is one of the most reputable universities in the world and has over 24,000 employees working in various locations; from the main campus in Palo Alto, to research centers all over the world. It offers a supportive and inclusive work environment where employees can thrive professionally and personally.

For the reimagining of Stanford’s careers website, it was crucial to accurately convey the university’s core values and rich work culture. With such a high reputation for academic excellence, advanced research, and innovation; attracting ideal candidates and streamlining their job search was essential.

Capturing the historic essence, in juxtaposition with modern technology.

From recent graduates, to professionals with years of experience, we wanted the website to appeal to all types of job seekers while not only conveying Stanford’s involvement in modern technology and innovation, but also it's historic architecture seen on campus. We produced a design system with the use of modern visual elements, classic typography, the university’s signature colors, and photography that depicted the brightness and warmth felt on campus.
Patterns were inspired by the round masonry arches seen throughout campus.

Retaining the top talent with engaging content.

To validate Stanford’s workplace and keep users engaged, we put a heavy focus on refining some of the peripheral pages that tend to get skipped (benefits, culture, diversity, etc). We upgraded their standard of displaying content with custom interactions and layouts, while also ensuring the designs were scaleable for all devices. Within the first year of launching, there was an 80% increase in traffic (718K 1.3M) and bounce rate still reduced by 10%.

A frictionless experience, from searching to applying.

We crafted a clear, scannable, and well-organized interface that allows for easy filtering, and comprehensive job descriptions without being overwhelming. We also added various gateways into the job search experience throughout the site to bring more accessibility to open roles; visitors entering the job search page quintupled.
